Characteristics of dried fish stores: Evidence based on an intact pit from Late Islamic Qatar

Archaeological evidence for the preparation of preserved fish is common. Preserving allowed stockpiling temporary abundance food created by good catches and seasonal plenty. In traditional societies, majority caught are later use rather than consumed fresh. Ethnographic information from southeast Arabia, wider region, storage provides interesting details process. not usually stored product itself, but distinctive species element composition waste or post-consumption refuse. Archaeologists rarely excavate a complete cache fish. This study presents data pit, capped with mud seal, excavated at Late Islamic site Freiha (al-Furayḥa) in Qatar. The contents pit were intact providing an opportunity to examine practice storing dried itself compare this ethnographic accounts.
